I'm starting to notice a trend over the past few months, people seem to view other's comments before posting their own opinion. not everyone, but many people.

Example:

Guy #1 Watches the movie, he really likes it.

Guy #2 Watches the movie, he completely hates it.

Guy #2 posts and says "this movie was horrible, stop playing wow man, geez"

Guy #1 goes to post "wow great movie man it was cool" However......

Guy #1 views the comment of Guy #2, and then Second Guesses what he originally thought about the movie. He thinks, finds ways to agree with the previous posters, thinks about their comments and opinions and then....

Guy #1 posts a worse comment with a lower rating than if he had not read the comment.

==========================================

The problem is, people don't post THEIR complete opinions if they just got the viewpoints of everyone else's opinions, the human brain isn't that smart. People are always influenced on what everyone else had to say about it first.

====================================

What I'm suggesting is:

Make it so that to be able to view the movie's comments you must either

A) Vote/comment yourself, with Your opinion

OR

B) Forfeit your vote.

This is so that other's opinions does not influence your true opinion on the movie you just watched. I've looked at many different videos, and opinions seem to follow a trend, and people rate lower "I agree with what he said, you actually did do this wrong, you get a 3/5 instead." so on

it won't effect anything to add this in, if someone wants to only view comments and they don't care about ratings or voting, they can just forfeit it. People who already voted and want to see if someone commented about what they said, then it won't matter because their vote is in.

I like the sound of this, I agree. This is the type of thing we want to prevent, down rating because of other people's comments is border line violation but we can't actually judge that. So simply having it,

Make it so that to be able to view the movie's comments you must either

A) Vote/comment yourself, with Your opinion

OR

B) Forfeit your vote.

Sounds very practical and I like the sound of it. Of course this would have to pass through the Admins before anything firm could be said about it.

That was a really good idea. I sometimes find myself doing it, but usually I try to avoid it. I'm voting for implenting it.

Well I always thought it should have been like this, but my newest video well... Basically a few bad apples posted they didn't like ice lance, and it turned into a big argument of people giving ratings of 1s and 2s because they thought "hey your right, ice lance is gay".

anyways, glad you liked the idea, hope this gets put in fairly soon if the admins like it, because I don't think ill be submitting any more videos until it happens. I work far too hard to let one or two little kiddies ruin the rest of the votes.

Very nice idea. I seem to find myself influenced by other peoples votes since I strive to keep 100 rating vote. I usually express my opinion in my comment anyway.

Mostly not but you know.

Nice idea, Vandalist.
But let me throw in some arguments against it:

1 : This would mean, I can not comment on other people comments. Not just in the "yeah, you are right"-way, but also in the "man, you are totally wrong"-way. Doesn't sound that attractive to me. I think, the communication within the comments is part of the thing and should be.

2 : Its true, some people downrate a movie, because they follow the tribe. On the other hand - it works the other way around, as well. There are more than one movie being totally uprated, just because the others before did rate high. (e.g.:"Internet is for porn" - brillant movie, but not a 5, compared to "The hardware store", for example - imho).

Btw : I always watch a movie first, then read the other comments, then give my rating and comment - hopefully uninfluenced.

I think, we should not put to many rules and limitations up, I just generally do not feel good about it.

Nevermind.

I'm indifferent about the seeing or not seeing the comments. What bugs me is the just blind voting of 5's for all 4 categories just because people laughed at what they watched. Ok, so the story was funny, but it was a grainy video with little editing. That gets a 5 for A/V? There's just no thought put into most votes, especially in the categories where those putting in hard work should be getting rewarded.

I don't know how to fix it, but man is it frustrating to watch crappy PVP videos get higher ratings and more downloads than storyline films with high production values.
