First off, I'm using Vegas to render raw media captured from Fraps. My computer specs are:

Intel Core2 CPU 4300
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS x2 SLI
recording at 1280x1024

Here are the settings I use in Vegas:

1 (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/581/78950722tp8.jpg) | 2 (http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/2836/67912827uq6.jpg) | 3 (http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7325/90122390zc5.jpg) | 4 (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/1228/10178869qb8.jpg) | 5 (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/9029/73607030wl3.jpg) | 6 (http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/241/69584908mf7.jpg)

My problem is a HUGE deterioration in quality during intense moments. The raw file is perfect at these times, yet the final product (wmv) is just God awful. Here's an example:

raw (http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/773/rawne0.jpg) | render (http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2950/renderiq9.jpg) | render / intense action (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/750/wtfak7.jpg)

As you can see, the action image is just awful. I don't understand it, if the raw is fine during these moments, why is the final product any different? Even if it's the way I render, wouldn't that change everything else as well? I get no lag during the raw, but the render is just horrendous.

If you want to view an example of what I'm talking about, download this (http://files.filefront.com/hyjalwmv/;7348710;/fileinfo.html). It's the full Hyjal video from the last screen cap. You will notice a violent change in quality throughout the entire film.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

On image 4 I can see that you are rendering the movie at 1280x1024. That's an extreme high resolution. And your average bitrate is set to 2m. I use 1.5 when my movie is 640x480 and 2 if my movie is 800x600. I think 2m is too low for 1280x1024. Try rendering with 3 or 4m

Like he said, increase bitrate to 3-5 M, this should help :)

Yeah increase the bitrate as Thiras said :)

Good luck mate!

Or do what I did and export the movie as a lossless AVI file, and convert it with an external encoder.

Vegas is crap at rendering WMV to be honest and causes a plethora of problems that don't happen with other renderers.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you have a suggestion on an external coder? I assume you mean vdub and sort, right?

Could work.

Even exporting it as an AVI and reimporting it back to Vegas and then rendering can help.

Never had any issues with vegas WMV apart from 2 things:

1) It's slow. SLOW.

2) It crashed after 312 frames of 32 3d layers. Nerf :p
