FRAPS quality/lag issues

So, I just finished building a new computer with the following specs

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz)
2gig Ram
Gforce 8800 GTS 640 MB PCI-E GPU
500 gig SATA Drive

...yet I get in game lag when recording with fraps (even at low fps / half screen settings). I usually run at 55-60 frames with all settings maxed everywhere in game, yet am having problems getting fraps to work correctly

any tips?

How much fps are you recording at? It's best to set it to 30 frames per second.

I originally tried it at high fps, but then changed it to 30 and still had lag issues, even at half size

Your FPS is lower than it should be with that card.

Check the nvidia control panel if you've got antialiasing turned up to 16x or some such.

updated fraps to 2.8.2+ ?
saving the fraps-files on a internal local hard drive (no external!!)?
playing in windowed mode (bad idea for frapsing) or fullscreeen ?

Fraps is updated and I play in full screen

However, I do write to one internal hard drive (friend told me it should be ok with a SATA hard drive)

Would it help to throw another hard drive in the box and write fraps to that one?

Antialiasing is set to "Application Controlled"

I have a 500gb sata hdd too, it can take more than 60 fps of 1280x1024 so no that shouldnt matter.

I'd like to know what resolution youre playing at, and ask that you upload a test clip for me to look at. Thank you :)

edit: test clip in full screen please, even if it lags.
