Im a total noob regarding that how do I do that? :>

Thiras 07-30-2007 09:40 AM

Em okay, if you haven't overclocked before dont bother with that :P

As I said try looking at the footage and see if there are fps drops there too.

factorzz 09-15-2007 10:07 AM

Hi there, so im start thinking about making movies but i have 1 question. I play wow at 1440x900 because i have a wide screen but as u said on the guide the max fraps will handle is 1280x800, so my question is. Should i play wow on 1280x800 when i want to record?

Oh and one more thing, when i start recording in-game the yellow fps counter turns red and stabilizes @ 30 fps is that normal?

Tks in advance stay cool!

If your fraps version is newer than 2.8.0 *and* you have a dualcore computer fraps can record at 1440x900. If you've got a singlecore you should go 1280x800.

As to your second question, yes, that's perfectly normal.

mellun 12-10-2007 03:53 PM

I'm having some trouble with fraps.I'm playing at 1440x900.I got fraps 2.9 and dual core cpu.I dont have any problem when i record full-size but when i try to record half-size i dont see the picture only the sound. It's black screen with sound :S i dont know what is the problem. It wasnt like that beforehand.
Simply i dont wanna record at full-size because of the file size.Sometimes i need to record 10 mins and as you can imagine the file going to be huge.
I dont think its a codec problem but i couldnt figure it out...

Zondervan 12-17-2007 07:45 PM

Verry helpfull ty

koltzu 01-01-2008 04:32 PM

the items that I've put on the model in WoW Model Viewer disapear of the model when I press F9 to make Fraps start recording..

Thiras 01-01-2008 04:50 PM

F9 is the model viewer keybinding for removing all gear, bind fraps to something else

koltzu 01-01-2008 04:52 PM

oh.. didn't check that.. thanks :P

uribemike 01-02-2008 09:13 AM

ty... but i need know how i can record more than 30 secs... or maybe some one can link me a full verson of FRAPS.

TY

Thiras 01-02-2008 12:01 PM

No. You'll have to buy the full version of fraps.

kiahann 01-02-2008 12:29 PM

As Thiras said you can't get the full version without paying for it that would be illegal. if you didn't catch his drift :)

Ashuren 01-04-2008 08:53 AM

How do you get rid of the fraps logo on your videos?

Cant get rid of it no matter what I do' and worse yet, when I have multiple models in a single set scene, I end up with two or more logos overlapping and covering the thing.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this problem?

Book 01-17-2008 04:46 PM

Would it be an idea to save my raw clips on an external disk? Connected with a regular USB. Or wouldn't it handle it?

Thiras 01-17-2008 08:20 PM

It can't handle direct recording very well, but if you record it to your internal hd you can copy the files to the external one afterwards.

Book 01-18-2008 06:19 AM

Thanks, Thiras.

uribemike 01-30-2008 08:39 AM

ty thiras.... well i need do this for the leagl way :(

Druanna 02-14-2008 01:50 PM

I'm trying to figure out how folks record the great movies without the interface showing, yet they can still emote, talk, etc.

I know that Alt-Z turns off my interface, but when I do that, all I can do is pan the camera around or run. For example, I can't type /dance and have my toon start dancing. I type /dance and nothing happens. :\

Anyone know how folks turn off the interface but are still able to interact with their toons and make them do things?

Defiled 03-05-2008 05:57 AM

When I record with fraps, it displays random vertical lines of color on the recording after it's saved. I've tried changing my ingame WoW settings but nothing seems to work. :(

I'm pretty sure they do them with binds atleast that's how I did it. with my g15 keyboard.

That sounds like it could be a video card issue what kind of card do you have?

salmanq 03-31-2008 04:05 AM

Whats the minimum video settings ingame that is accepted as decent? Whats the standard?

kiahann 03-31-2008 01:44 PM

What do you mean? like graphics? or fraps settings?

Both. Maybe should add that I plan to do a PvP movie.

kiahann 04-02-2008 12:36 AM

Well it depends really you can get good quality on fraps useing 50 fps if you have vegas editing.

sandman88 04-04-2008 05:02 PM

Ok,

I just recently built a new monster of a machine.

Intel E8400 3.0 ghz proc
8 gigs of 1066 ram
Nvidia 9600 GT SSC (SLI)
EVGA 780i Mobo
WD Raptor 10k primary drive
Vista Ultimate x64

I'm running fraps 2.9.4 (latest) I've tried everything to get a clear uncompressed vid and nothing i'm doing is working.

I've set both the desktop and wow to 1152 xxx (forget exact number, not at home) and when I do that the image on my screen becomes fuzzy (actual in game) i think because my monitor wants to run at 1600x1200.

When i create the video it's just not clear like others i have seen with far less equipment. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers.

I don't have vertical sync enabled in wow, and my fps are typically over 100, when i hit F9 to start recording my fps goes down to 30 and seems to lag somewhat. I've read that there are issues in 2.9.4 do you think that's some of the issue?

sandman88 04-04-2008 05:12 PM

I just found this FAQ from one of the Machinma gods.

I'll set up my system accordingly , see if i can get some better results.

It could be some of the issue but it could be your monitor as well.

I know when I use to record with windows movie maker (since you cant really choose rendering options) after I render my footage would go all green and really mess up:cry:

with those computer specs YOU should not have any lag what so ever on the best fraps settings what I'm guessing that it might not support the 9600's yet or something.

as for the blurriness of your raw footage not sure why it does that I mean the quality of the raw footage won't ever be perfect but have you tried just rendering the raw footage is it still blurry?

sandman88 04-04-2008 05:26 PM

I used to fraps with a far lesser machine, amd 3700 , 2 gigs of ram, agp vid card gf 6800gt and the vids weren't perfect, but they were OK for what it was.

I typically use Vegas 7 to render the video, not sure if that is the proper way to do it, I haven't re-installed vegas on my vista system yet, still trying to work out the other issues.

I'll play around with some settings this weekend, just wasn't sure if anyone had seen anything like this and had some quick fixes for the issues.

Does turning up your fps inside of fraps help at all? i know the files will be larger in size, i'm not worried about that, just wasn't sure if it actually helped the quality of the capture.

kiahann 04-05-2008 03:01 AM

The higher the fps the bigger the file size but it makes fraps run better on your computer.

Keladian 05-24-2008 03:25 PM

Thanks. I hope I can by this later.

gee0826 06-13-2008 02:55 PM

yea i also agree fraps is awesome, i film my lotro movies with it

Manoquintret 10-03-2008 12:20 AM

The free version of fraps blows :(

Hi i got some questions. My pc is fine, no problems. But i dont understand a few things. What should no sync be? Pls a good explanation. Secdon, if i play WoW, i got 50-140 FPS depens on how many people around me...So en exsample. I play BG, got 50 FPS. My Fraps is set to 30 FPS. If i press the capturing button, should my FPS be 20 oder 30 ingame? I thought if i set fraps to 30, it does my ingame fps - the Fraps fps. But i can have 120 FPS, an if i record it goes down to 30 FPS. And i dont like to play with 30 FPS. ALso do i not like to set 1125x8xx cause it looks just ugly. i did now 1,2x1 oder something. Should be working too, or? Sn finally the last question. I got a old Screen. Its not widescreen its one of this old ones 10x9 or something. The moste people got widescreen, i dont want to render it t owidescrren, cause that looks ugly too. Should i just put some black spacec left and right?

Sry for my bad english :) Im swiss not english. And btw, your link doents work anymore. In the starting post.

Ignore the synch it's nothing you need to bother with, so just leave it.

The FPS; remember when Fraps is running it rapes the PC and will make your FPS drop by around 50% in most cases, I suggest setting Fraps FPS to 30 or 25, then make sure you edit and render your movie in the same FPS as that.

xotix 03-31-2009 05:35 PM

But i dont unterstand how it works. Look

I play normaly, fraps isnt running. I got 90 FPS

I start Fraps, set it to 30FPS and start capturing. Now my 90 FPS drop to 30 FPS. I always got the fps ingame which is set on Fraps. But i want to record at 30 fps and play with 60 fps. Why's that?

stormrager 03-31-2009 07:48 PM

uncheck the sync. Then it should y fix your FPS problems if your computer can handle frapsing at 30 while playing at 60 fps.

xotix 04-01-2009 08:10 AM

i never have had no sync activated. I just wanna know if thats normal that fraps reduces my game FPS, the fps which i play with, to the number i set in the fraps options. Or if thats wrong, and fraps just should reduce my fps. Look vor example. I set Fraps to 29 FPS. THen i go to the login Screen of wow. There i got about 400-500 FPS! Then i Press F7, to start recording, and while Fraps is recording it goes down to 29. Shouldt it dropt about 20% percent and not dropt to the seted stat?
If i set 10 FPS at Fraps, i get 10 FPS ingame. If i set 20, i get 20 ingame. So theoreticly i should set Fraps to 50 FPS, cause i dont like to play at 29 FPS if i could play and record at 50. But Setting Fraps to 50 is stupid. I used fraps a few months ago, ant then it didnt do that. Why now? Got the normal Settings.

stormrager 04-01-2009 09:09 PM

Fraps usually records at the hightest possible fps that it can closest to the number you set. If you set it to 60 it will record to as close to 60 as your computer can handle while recording. I personally can record at 99 FPS because of the machine I have but it depends on the hardware you have.

Hedges388 08-06-2009 12:21 AM

ok stormrager this one is for you: I have plenty of machine trying to record a game that normally runs at 100 fps now if I set fraps to half or full with a targeted recording rate of 100fps at a resolution of 1680x1050 then the recorded material only records at like 30 fps giver or take a few.... So here is the question I don't need to record 100fps (large file) I need to record at like 30fps but I sure as hell don't want to play my game at 30fps, so what gives if I set fraps to record at 100fps the recording is a jumpy 30fps (can't tell its running in the game, fps stays at 100, game runs smooth as silk) However if I turn it down to a targeted 30fps recording, then my game goes to 30fps.

So two questions:

1. Why the lag in the recording at 100fps with none in game?

2. Why can't I record at 30fps and still run my game at 100fps?

A side note: I realize that 1680x1050 is higher than what is said to be the maximum resolution recordable, however if Fraps is set to 60fps in half or full screen recording it works perfectly. But if turned up to 100fps targeted record speed the recordings stutter around 30fps, give or take, as usual.

So how can I run record and play at 100fps or record at 30fps and play at 100fps, preferable the latter.

Another side note: The no sync option changes nothing on or off.

Last Side note: I am running Fraps paid version 2.9.8

Thanks again

Hedges
