Trailers in the top 20 movies

I was gonna go into a long rant about it, but the basic point is that I don't think trailers should be eligible for the Top 20 movies of all time since they aren't, by definition, movies at all.

If I'm alone in this I'll drop it, but that's always bugged me that people that put together 20 seconds of awesome visuals with the promise of something great later get rated super high and make the top 20 when there's really nothing there but flash and no real content.

Yeah, they aren't movies and shouldn't be regarded as such.. we have discussed this before and maybe it's time to add it on our TO DO on how to handle them.

On the other hand : A trailer like "FURY" took for sure more work than most of the 30-min PVP movies around here (example given). And even though its not a full movie, it's still an awsome piece of artwork, imho...

Maybe make an extra Top 20 just for trailers - or movies under 2 minutes in general..?

Following this thought I realise it generates more questions than answers...

Hmmm

Fury is a very good trailer. It could be classed as a short movie.

Sure it's good, but it's still a trailer. If he had classified it as a short movie I'd be all about it (even if I still have no clue what it's about other than it looks pretty), but it's still a trailer and it was the submitters choice to call it one.

I agree with your suggestion, but some of the trailers are still very well edited and have a very high rating, they kind of deserve to be in the top movies.

Perhaps making another section, Top 20 Trailers. lul

I have moved the trailers off the the list and increased the numbers of movies to 30. I will let you debate this some more before I decide what to do. Are both changes needed or is it enough to increase the number of movies on the list?

Terwilliger 09-14-2007 01:07 PM

I think that increasing the number is enough. If you just remove the trailers from the list, new trailers will just creep back up there.

Though this can be debated.

I guess my beef is that if you're creating a trailer for your project, you're effectively getting credit for the same work twice. It's like a highlight reel of your project.

Then again, if you make a trailer and never actually release anything *cough* ID:EFO *cough*, well, then that's really all you've got.

Regardless, it just stinks to see people rate all 5's on something that is visually stunning, but gives you no idea as to what's actually going on. That might just be more about the lack of thought put into ratings than anything though. It's frustrating to think about and explain your rating only be scorned by the community for not giving straight 5's just cause it was funny even with it's horrible visuals and sound.

Terwilliger 09-15-2007 02:22 AM

There are alot of people, and I mean ALOT of people, that rate 5/5/5/5 on movies that they liked, and 1/1/1/1 on movies they didn't. But no one can stop them.

I understand your point here, but the authors did put effort in to making those trailers still, and it is still a separate movie.

I DO BELIEVE A POLL IS IN ORDER (on the forums)
