are you using 64bit version of Sony Vegas? if so you'll have issues with the fraps codec. Use the x86 (32bit) version of Sony Vegas instead... or use an alternative to fraps, such as bandicam

I avoid rendering with WMV from sony vegas, primarily because the encoder it uses is very slow and inefficient. It renders 5 frames, then encodes, then waits, then repeats....
