Having trouble making Life like Moving Shadows,

Ive been Trying to add a shadow that moves along with one of my character as it walks, animated shadow.

I know u can Slow down a clip by Ctrl and Drag it out but i WANT to use a Velocity Enverlope...But you cant right click , insert/remove, verlocity...

ah cheres dude, i understand that but after ive seleceted oval in cookie cutter fx with the right colour etc it still stays as one huge clip that overlays onto my other Parts of the movie.
