cutting footage, how?

Hello.

Im making some footage with fraps and i want to cut scenes with out compressing them so i can edit them in vegas when im done.

From what ive read the usual method is to use virtualdub, select the video part i want to retrieve ; video -> direct stream copy ; file -> save as avi. The problem is that when i play the generated cutted video is very laggy (the original one its fine) so i was wondering what im missing or if theres a nother fast n easy way to do this.
