Question abuot filesize vs quality

I recently got fraps and tried to make a movie with it obviously.

Now I want to find out whether my quality vs filesize ratio is decent enough or if I should step it up a notch. The problem however is that I don;t have any webspace to show it to you guys which kinda sucks for explainaing what I mean. So i'll do my best to explain it with words.

My resolution ingame is 1680x1050
Fraps is run at 30FPS on half resolution

I Appended all the raw data I got in Virtualdub and ran a 2pass XviD encoding.

For 33 minutes of WoW footage I got a 583MB file.

The question is: Is this good enough or are there ways to improve this?

Any tips on how to improve it encoding wise will be greatly appreciated. I understand that running it at full reso will give me a better bunch of raw data to work with but it was more for testing purposes.

For 33 minutes of video that is a good file size. If you wanted, you could up the quality but that would be good quality I think.

Use 24 or 25 fps unless you are using very slow motion in the movie which you want very artistically smooth and slow, if not then drop it down to 24 fps rendering it will drop the file size a good chunk.

If you can find a way to encode with h.264 you can get the file size down even more and have it at even higher quality than it is right now. But if you're using a PC that's going to be fiddly, it's much easier on a Mac for h.264 encoding really. :-/
