Beast machine, still laggy capture.

Hi all,

I have a really good computer but I still lag heavily while capturing, I've tried Fraps which is the worst, Xfire which is a close second and Wegame, which seems to be the best, I can record with their default setting fine but it looks awful.

My ring: i5 750 @ 4GHz, 4GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz, ATI 5850 @ 775/1125, SSD HDD (Windows, Apps and games) + a 400GB storage drive, this is where the files are saved.

What are you trying to record at? Please list your settings, fps, resolution, etc.

Fraps is likely the worst because your game framerate is tied with the record framerate. So if the recording is laggy or if you set it to record at say 30fps, you will play at a laggy fps or at 30fps. Not to mention fraps uses the most nonlossy codec.

Xfire is better because your game framerate isn't tied with the record framerate. So if the recording is laggy, you won't feel it. If you set to record at 30fps, you can still play your game at 60fps, or whatever your max is. Also xfire uses a nonlossy codec, but not as good as fraps. But you might not even notice the difference.

Wegame is the "best" because they use a very cheap, lossy codec, and the max recording resolution is fairly small. This means it's very very easy on your computer.

Try running task manager in the background to track cpu usage, and resource monitor in the background to track hard drive usage. I'm suspecting your storage drive can't write the files fast enough if your settings are set high.
