extremely large file size

i finally completed my first music video. but after compiling it with sony vegas the file has come out as nearly 900 mb in size.. this video is only set at 600x512 and the complete vids only 3 mins long.. how the hell did it get so large? and how do i reduce it without ruining the quality?
