Fed Up With Poor Quality Video
Ok, so I posted earlier asking Thiras some questions about encoding my video. Everything works out fine as far as that goes, but it seems like every codec I've tried so far has been total crap. The best so far has been x264, but it still wasn't very good. I've watched countless videos where I can read chat logs, read character names, etc. Yet in my video, you can barely make out the names in my arena mod, and there is no way you can read the names in my party unless you squint. The footage also just has a blurry look to it.
I've tried a ton of different codecs, and all the ones I could actually watch were blurry, and the few that I couldn't watch seemed like they might be better, but I couldn't find how to play them. (This is mainly referring to when I used the VP70 codec) If anyone has any info. on how I'd watch a VP70 encoded clip, that'd be awesome as well. So my main question is, what am I doing wrong? I fraps in game at 1440x900 resolution, and my FPS is always good in game. I'm wondering if I am not selecting all the settings correctly or something, but I followed Thiras's guides and can't seem to get it to work. If anyone has any tips or opinion on what I should use, please help! List of codecs I've used: DiVx xVid x264 VP70 Trying VP62 now Thanks in advance, and I'm open to any suggestions. |

Lets try xvid for now and you can move to x264 later on (because you need to use megui to do proper x264).
I need to know what program you're using in order to be of any help |

For example: Grim's "Grim - Total Annihilation" is a good qualitie pvp movie where you can "see the combat-log".
And the size isn't big, 413MB - 25mins. What's his magic? I tried the guide:"GUIDE:Rendering with Sony Vegas 6 / 7 *Please read*" and did every step there, but the outcome wasn't to pleasant I use Sony Vegas 7 and the recording program is Fraps. The raw clips from fraps looks like ingame when I see theme in fullscreen. |

Also, how do you play a clip that was encoded with VP70? Thanks for your time, sorry for my noobishness. |

Try VLC. Never heard about VP70 tbh.. It is the name of a H&K handgun according to wikipedia tho
As for compressing.. How do you get the movie from premiere -> vegas? I would recommend saving it from premiere using Lagarith (available here: http://lags.leetcode.net/Lagarith_1314.zip ) (and remember to have the right resolution set up in premiere first) then compressing it with virtualdub as per the guide. |

For best quality, render the video out uncompressed then use virtualdub to compress it. Video editing programs are meant for editing video not for exporting to compressed formats. Use Virtualdub for that as that is what it is meant to do.
Edit: Here is my Xvid configuration if you need some help on that. http://static1.stormragerproductions.com/xvid/ Last edited by stormrager : 02-25-2008 at 04:00 AM. |
