Need free video editor

TL;DR: Need a free program that will let me edit two sound files to match the video of an .avi file.

I've downloaded several but haven't had much luck.

I have no experience with this sort of thing, I just need something simple, for a "legal" copy of Windows, that will let me edit some movie files with the original movie's sound plus my own sound files, while being able to watch the movie so I can match the voices.

I'm working with .avi files (and although I have fraps) this is not to edit recorded WoW files but a ripped DVD.

If VirtualDub has this I don't know how to use it.

Wax threw errors.

Blender...looks really super cool but isn't a video editor I don't think.

AviSynth is like command line or something, that wasn't going anywhere.

HALP!
