Full WCM Live Broadcasting FAQ

Help with broadcasting

What platforms does the broadcaster support?
Windows XP or Vista. At the moment other operating systems are not currently supported

How do I install the broadcaster?

To install the broadcaster, double-click the broadcaster setup icon located on your desktop or in the directory where you stored the file.

Double-clicking the setup icon will open the Setup Installation Wizard. The Wizard will walk you through the steps to install the broadcaster.

Typical vs. Custom Installation

During the installation, you will have the option to select whether you want to install Typical setup or Custom setup of the broadcaster. The Typical setup will install the most common program features, and is recommended for most users.

Note: Typical installation will install the following configurations on your system: automatically opening the Windows firewall for the broadcaster, enabling sound notifications when you select a hotkey to broadcast, and installing the broadcaster in CProgram Files.

Completing Installation
When the broadcaster is successfully installed, the wizard will display a window stating that the broadcaster installation has completed. You can now start the broadcaster by clicking on the icon shortcut in your desktop, Start Panel, or system tray.

How do I start a broadcast?

Setting up broadcast hotkeys
To get started, make sure you’ve launched the broadcaster by double-clicking the icon on your desktop, Start Panel or system tray.
On double-clicking icon, you will see a Settings Window with several different tabs. Select the Hotkeys Tab on the right corner of the tabs section.

Hotkeys let you enable different controls with the click of one button. For example, in the above hotkeys tab display, to start your broadcast, all you’d have to do is select the “ScrollLock” key and the “B” key at the same time on your keyboard.

By clicking on the text field next to each control, you can modify the hotkey for each button. For example, you can make “F7” as the hotkey to start or stop a broadcast, and “F5” to pause/resume a broadcast, etc.

You can modify the hotkeys as you see fit for the game or application you are planning to broadcast.

Broadcasting your game or application

Now that you have learned to setup your hotkeys, this section will describe how to broadcast an application with a hotkey.

Make sure the broadcaster program is still running on your machine (one easy way to check is to see if the broadcaster icon is appearing on your system tray). Then, open the game or application you want to broadcast.

When the game or application has loaded, select the hotkey to start the broadcast. You will hear a short beep sound and the broadcaster icon on your system tray will change to show the broadcast is loading. If you mouse over broadcaster icon, it will display a tool tip stating “Broadcast starting.”

Note:** Audio beep will be heard if your audio speakers are unmuted and you have selected Typical setup or option to install sound notifications in Custom setup in the Installation Wizard.

When your broadcast has loaded, the broadcasting icon will now be displayed in the system tray. If you mouse over the broadcasting icon, it will display a tooltip with the number of viewers watching your broadcast.

That’s it! You are now broadcasting.

When you are done broadcasting, simply select the hotkey you specified in the hotkeys tab to stop the broadcast. You will hear an audio beep and the broadcast will stop. You can also pause the broadcast if you need a quick break. Just select the hotkey you specified to pause the broadcast, and when you are ready to broadcast again, select the resume hotkey.

Note:** You must be connected to a network in order to broadcast. If you encounter any problems with your broadcast, make sure your network connection is working!

How do I share a broadcast?
In certain broadcaster versions, you can copy the link where your broadcast is being shown online.
First,

right click the broadcaster icon on your system tray. A settings menu will appear. If you see the "copy url" option, select it to copy your broadcast address to your clipboard.
Simply paste the url in your email or IM to friends and family. When they open the url in their browser, they will be directed to your broadcast.
If you do not see the "copy url" option in the settings menu, we're sorry, your broadcaster version does not currently support this.

Note: Your friends and family members can only see broadcasts on a Windows PC using Firefox 2+ and Internet Explorer 6+

How do I record a broadcast?

The broadcaster will let you keep a recorded copy of your broadcast on your computer.

Double click the broadcaster icon on your desktop, Start Panel or system tray to access the Settings Window.

In the General settings tab (open by default), go to the “Record video to disk” section and select the "Record to…" checkbox. Now your next broadcast will be stored as an mp4 file in your computer!

Note: You can store up to a 3 hour recording on your computer if you have available disk space.

Modifying the location where your recorded files are stored

To modify the location where your recorded files should be stored, simply click the “browse” button and select the desired directory in your computer.
On clicking the Ok button at the bottom of the Settings Window, your recording options will be saved and applied to every subsequent broadcast.

Disabling recording of your broadcast.

If you want to stop recording broadcasts, simply deselect the record checkbox in the General settings tab and click Ok.

How do I add a webcam overlay to my broadcast?

The Overlay tab allows you to broadcast a webcam overlay along with the game or application you are capturing.

Connecting your webcam to your computer

To set the webcam overlay, you must first connect your webcam to your computer. Make sure the webcam device driver is recognized by your computer (on connecting your webcam, you should see a message notifying you that new hardware or device driver has been found).

You can opt to show your webcam overlay everytime you broadcast. Simply select the checkbox to "Show Overlay immediately when broadcast starts."
By deselecting the checkbox, the overlay will only be shown if you toggle it with a hotkey (see next section).

4. If you do not see Stereo Mix, right click on a blank area and select Show Disabled Devices. Stereo mix should appear for you to enable (step #2). Please note if you do not see the Stereo Mix option, then you will only be able to transmit audio from your microphone.

5. Restart the WCM Live Broadcaster. You should now be able to transmit audio from your application.
Make your microphone the default audio on Vista
1. Right click on Stereo Mix and select Disable.

2. Click on your microphone and select Set as Default Device.

What are known issues that may affect my broadcast?

Network connection

You will need to be connected online in order to broadcast. Check to see if your network connection is working.

I cannot capture and broadcast a specific application

You are only allowed to broadcast specific applications. If you are not able to broadcast an application, it is most likely because this application is blocked.
Hotkeys are not working

When you're capturing a full-screen application, it's possible you may encounter some problems with Hotkeys. To solve this, first capture your entire desktop, then start the full-screen application. You will now broadcast the full-screen application. On closing this application, the broadcast will then switch to the desktop.

The broadcaster is not responding after hitting the start/stop hotkeys
If you frequently hit the start or stop hotkeys while trying to broadcast, the broadcaster may stop responding. Simply restart the broadcaster and wait a few seconds every time you hit the start or stop hotkey. You should no longer encounter any hang-ups.
Anti-cheat software

For best performance, please do not install anti-cheat software, like VAC or Punkbuster. You will not be able to broadcast applications if anti-cheat software is installed in your game.
Dual monitor problems

If you're attempting to use the broadcaster on dual monitors, your applications may crash. Please disable the dual monitor and use the
broadcaster on only one monitor.
The uninstaller keeps crashing
This is most likely due because you have the broadcaster still running. Make sure that you exit the broadcaster before you uninstall. If you have exited the broadcaster and are still encountering problems, you may still have the broadcaster running in the background. Use the Task Manager to brute-force close the broadcaster application.
How do I uninstall the broadcaster?

To uninstall the braodcaster, first make sure that you have closed the broadcaster application. Next, go to the directory in which the broadcaster is installed and select the Uninstall executable.

A window prompting you if you’d like to uninstall the broadcaster will appear.

Select “yes” to proceed to the uninstall window. You will see a progress bar of the uninstallation occurring.

When the uninstall completes, the window will disappear. The broadcaster will have been uninstalled from your computer.
