Hey sorry to kinda hi-jack this thread but I'm also having a similar problem.

I fraps'd some games in full size and the quality is amazing but the files are enormous. For a 2 minute clip the fraps version was around 5 gigs, and compressed version was around 200 mb.

Is the clip, the stream looks absolutely terrible though. I don't understand why.
My full size is 1280x1024 if that matters.
