Need help with filesize :)

Hey guys,
I've got a problem with the Filesize of my Videoclips.
I rendered exactly as shown in Thiras' guide (except the audio thingy, just included audio in the movie with 44khz 192kbps) and my rendered 2min14sec clip
(30fps, 640x400 resolution) is 86mb o_O
I dont think this is normal coz there are Movies with muuuuuuuch better Quality at much better resolutions and same fps/25fps which are like 17 minutes long and just 600mb big...
I use Sony Vegas 7.0e

What do you think is the problem? :E

(I'm completely new to Vegas but know some basics of cutting/editing/rendering etc.)

600mb for 17 minutes is to big imo What I don't get is when I fraps at 1152*864 and render to 1152*864 or to 800*600 with same bitrate and stuff that I get the same size I thought you would win size since you trow away pixels or someting

Bitrate = data/time, resolution is irrelevant.

1000 kbit at 1152x864 would give worse quality but higher rez than 1000 kbit at 800x600.

I couldnt find the bitrate option, but it's 1679kBit/s in the video.
I rendered another one, it had the same butrate and resolution, but is 97,1mb big and just 59 seconds long o_o

Where did you get 1679 from?

The bitrate option is in the first window of xvid, where you should have "target bitrate" set and a value.

I got the 1679 as a preset value i think....
Found the bitrate option...it was "Target size", but clicking that made it show the "Target bitrate" button lol

But now im getting a codec error when I try to start saving the 1st pass (or 2nd, doesnt matter)...just going to reinstall and report if the filesize is ok.

Thanks for your help so far

Yes I kow that. But shouldn't you lose filesize when you go to a lower resolution? What I mean is you encode your file 1 time with 1000 kbit at 1152*864 and then 1 time with 1000 kbit at 800*600. Then when you compare the two files shouldn't the last one be smaller then the first one? or am i missing something

No. The bit rate is how much data is assigned to the video per second.

1000 bkit = 125 kilobytes a second. Always.
