Compressing fraps?

So, every time I make a movie, it fills up my hardrive. For maybe half an hours worth of film it takes up 90gig, which I have to clean up frequently if I want my comp to even still handle fraps. I've heard of compressing fraps, any suggestions?

Short answer: No.

Keeping a clean folder (deleting the footage you dont want) and having a large hard disk are both necessary.

Sorta yes and no.

Can you compress the movies fraps records as it records them? No. This is like this so that fraps can record your screen/sound using as few resources as possible. If it compressed the movie too, most computers wouldn't be able to handle it (although some extreme gamers or so on might have good enough comps).

Anyways, heres another solution I use myself.

After my fraps folder hits 85gb of space used (which is the limit i use for the folder since it brings my HD pretty low), I go through them, delete the mistakes and stupid ones, and put the ones i need to keep to another folder.

Once your done with that, bring them into sony vegas (one at a time, not all at once or in the same edit) and then compress it/produce the clip. The rendering of the clip will save your computers space, and now you can use the compressed clip and delete the Gigantic fraps recording.

This is a slow process I know, but if your really working hard on a movie or making a big movie, or you just have a small HD, this is a pretty decent solution.

I don't recommend compression before editing because it will make your movie look like crap. I would have said Huffyuv compression before editing but I just learned from Thiras that this doesn't work anymore It makes your files bigger now instead of smaller. You are gonna need a lot of space to store frapsed files if you want good results. Maybe buy a second drive to transfer the frapsed footage that you want to use to.
