I think that he is looking for a way to give wow modelviewer characters shadows with vegas. As far as I know this isn't possible with vegas. Adobe Premiere can do it tough with the effect, drop shadows.

duplicate the character layer, turn down the opacity, make it dark and then put it where you want it.

are you using in game footage or keyed footage ( greenscreen )

if you're using in game footage I recommend you start masking in vegas
duplicate the masked footage and start with 3D tracking.
or a plugin called "pluginpac" which you can download here

http://users.pandora.be/pap/pluginpac.zip

Play with your brightness to make it dark !
make sure your "shadow" footage is beneath your source footage
Now a cool little effect is blurring it

as for the keyed footage almost the same
only use chroma keyer

Hope this helps

Great Question! *Mods* Delete this reply if it's not ok to put a link in, but we are starting to answer questions from the forums on our machinima podcast, so thought i'd just post on the topics we answered.

Here's a link to the podcast: http://worldofwarcraftthemovie.com/podcast/?p=32
